SIMPLE @ Serious Games Institute and LILAC…

SIMPLE will be presented at the Second Wednesday January event, Serious Games Institute, University of Coventry, on Wednesday 14 January. Seminar slides at Slideshare, here. Later in the month Karen Barton and Patricia McKellar will be presenting the SIMPLE project at the LILAC conference, University of Warwick. It’s hosted by the UK Centre for Legal Education (UKCLE), and if you’re planning on going it’s a great opportunity to talk to people who ran simulations in the JISC/UKCLE SIMPLE project, and who are running them now, post-project. I’ll be there (presenting at another session), and happy to talk about our Law School’s Personal Injury project, which will be winding up on Friday of this week, and which I’ve been organising, along with Charles Hennessy, of Hennessy Bowie, in Glasgow. Amazing work by our postgrad Diploma students, who effectively produce an entire client file over the course of several months. 272 students, divided into 68 firms, working on 34 unique transactions, every one of them starting with basic information and culminating in a complex pre-litigation negotiation between the opposing firms. Two lectures (intro & feedback), no seminars — instead we hold voluntary ‘surgeries’ and support students via discussion forums. It’s an example of transactional learning in practice — read more about the project and this new pedagogy in my Transforming Legal Education, chapters 6-8.
