SIMPLE On Windows VISTA

Postby mhughes2k on Fri Jun 12, 2009 5:36 pm

There have been a number of issues reported regarding running the SIMPLE tools using Vista.

There *should* be no issues with the SIMPLE tools on Vista (any edition), we have had them running on this platform. The .NET 3.5 framework is an extension of the 2.0 framework which the current version of the tools should be compiled against.

The only previous time that we've any similar reports was from one of our partners during the SIMPLE project which we were unable to reproduce. The best information we could determine at the time was that it *may* be related to software either being installed from network drives and/or on to "shared desktops". This was based on the fact that it only appeared to affect computers that were being centrally managed by the university's IT services and had Novell Netware installed. However this was on Window's XP based systems...

We were never able to reproduce this in any controllable way to work out what was going wrong.

It is worth may be worth trying to place the installer program in an windows "Special" folder like "c:\Program Files" and installing it from that location, leaving the installer files in that directory, as I've found some limited information about the .NET Framework checking if the installed application is valid, and failing if it can't find the installer files (unfortunately this behaviour is down to the Windows Installer and not directly fixable by us!)

I'll keep this thread updated if any new information comes up.
Hope this helps.
